Malaysia launches it’s first social media event, the Malaysia Social Media Week, in hopes of engaging more youths to create more cyber media.
Connecting people, content and conversations on trends in social and mobile media through learning experiences in order to enhance the understanding of social media role in Malaysian society. That’s what the objective of Malaysia Social Media Week (MSMW) is. The five-day event starts on February 13. Besides the physical conference, this national event will be presented online through social network to grab more audiences.
Taking a look at the targeted participants, the organizers realizes the importance social network and its role in almost every aspect of our life. Personally and professionally. C-Level executives to brand managers, entrepreneurs to students, artists to activists, all are expected to attend the event organized by Social Media Chambers which is fully supported and endorsed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture.
General Ibrahim Abdul Rahman, The Information Department Director, says “The ministry will continue to support such programmes as it involves the creative industry led by the ministry. We want more youths to come up with material for the cyber media and other media forms by providing funds to widen the industry in Malaysia,” during the event’s briefing.
“The MSMW is expected to link hundreds of thousands of social media users in the country and abroad. It is also hoped to create new interactive ideas, increase knowledge and share a global network with social media practitioners,” said Shahul Hameed, Social Media Chambers CEO.
The varied activities are ranges from a gadget expo to forums to even a ‘Tweet-A-Thon’. To help create more hype, MSMW will end with a concert with live performances from popular local artists such as, Dennis Lau, Shawn Lee, Najwa Latif and Amir Jahari at Dataran Merdeka.
Jeff Ragovin from Buddy Media, Sivamurugan Pandian from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Nipun Kapur from Closet Chronicles, Jay Byrne from v-Fluence Interactive, Willy Lim from NetProfitQuest and Dave Duarte from MD Ogilvy Digital Marketing Academy are several speakers scheduled at the event.
Pre-events such as the soft launch, media brief, and media soft launch, have been held in other locations in the capital city aimed to foster closer relationships between social media practitioners and tackle youth issues so that the social media were used more positively. All crowd eyes are predicted to be on the two main sessions: World Blogger and Social Media Summit and World Blogger and Social Media Awards.
