September Founders Drinks addresses App-lication

by Joash Wee

This month’s Founders Drinks will have a focus on building apps for the mobile and web platform – with another twist. There will be no pitches, instead we will have the event centered around a panel discussion that will tackle design, usability and monetization issues for apps build on the web, mobile or both. Appropriately called “Tales of the Web and Mobile Platform”.

As a developer, sometimes there’s the dilemma of whether to build for the web, for mobile or for both. A lot of it depends on the nature of the product and how it will be used by your users. Sometimes, it is good to have both the web and mobile versions of the product but other times just concentrating your resources on one platform would allow for a better product to be built. So when is it reasonable for a product to be on both mobile and web platforms and how will you justify the additional resources needed? What are the golden rules of design, usability and monetization when building only for the web or mobile? Do these rules change when you build for both? What are the synergies gained from building on both mobile and web?

These questions will be addressed by the panel at Founders Drinks and will be made out of founders from mobile and web related companies, developers and also consultants. Amazon Web Services will be hosting us again at their office at Capital Square with Chalkboard as supporting sponsor for food and beverages.
