Paypal and MOL Combine Forces To Launch PrePaid Card For Online Shopping and Gaming
Looks like MOL is having a field week with regard to partnerships with internet giants. In a press conference held earlier, MOL and PayPal announced a strategic collaboration to launch a Digital Card for online shopping and gaming. This card will enable Malaysians to fund a PayPal account or to easily reload MOLPoints to purchase online games, products and services – all without the need of a credit card.
This card will be initially rolled out in Malaysia by July 19 and is issued by EON Bank Berhad and can be purchased and topped-up at 7-11 stores around the country.
“Many Malaysians still do not have credit cards or are not comfortable using their credit cards online, so this new prepaid card will allow them to use a PayPal account to quickly and more safely shop online as well as buy MOLPoints to play exciting online games,” said Elias Ghanem, General Manager, PayPal Southeast Asia & India. MOL now has about 200 game titles under its umbrella including the massive online world, World of Warcraft.
For the non-gamers, This card will enable them to be eligible for shopping and dining promotions exclusive to PayPal customers.
Though the rollout is initially planned in Malaysia, they haven’t issued any statement regarding expansion into other Asia Pacific countries.
