Indonesia is Now The Third Largest Producer of Tweets
According to a recent report released by French firm, Semiocast - Asia is now the leading producer of tweets, usurping North America. Tweets from the Asian region has increased to 37% from 31.5% three months ago, with Japan leading the pack and Indonesia being a close second.
Twitter’s popularity in Japan has risen which is evident in the number of twitter messages rising to 18% from 15%. Not surprising, considering that Twitter launched a Japanese version of its service in 2008. Indonesia’s Twitter usage has also steadily increased, accounting to 12% of twitter messages worldwide. India, the fourth Twitter nation in Asia, represents less than 1% of messages. South Korea enters the fray with at 7th position representing 2% of messages sent.
With internet and mobile penetration rate increasing phenomenally in Asia, we are witnessing many web services being consumed in a large scale. Facebook’s presence in Asia is also growing simultaneously with the Asian users accounting for 15% of the total Facebook population (as of March’10)
The real-time data service Semiocast surveyed 2.9 million messages and studied the geo-location data as proof of value for its recently launched API.
