If you are topographically challenged and are always on the lookout for the nearest places to feed your hungry self, then buUuk is definitely the application for you. buUuk – which calls itself the indispensable guide to eating and drinking is available in the iPhone app store from today. According to its description on the App store, the service is available in almost 13 countries including Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, India, Dubai etc. which is pretty amazing and can therefore target a large user base.
buUuk offers a multitude of features like restaurant reviews, exclusive deals/discounts, facebook integration etc. But the most talked about feature is its ‘Augmented Reality’ application. With Augmented Reality(AR) being the buzz word nowadays, skepticism naturally arises when a company mentions this feature. But take one look at the video below, and one can see how useful it might be to users. The AR function uses GPS as well as the compass on the iPhone to provide you an extra layer of information on the different restuarants near you.
Hungrygowhere is the other app that does similar location based search for F&B establishments, though it has been around longer and is the most widely read F&B related page in Singapore, buuuk has some advantages in terms of the sheer number of restaurants. Hungrygowhere has about 6000 restaurants whereas buUuk has about 70,000. While Hungrygowhere has a strong web presence, buUuk is looking to establish only a mobile presence with its app released on both iphone and android platform as well. With flurry of LBS apps hitting the market nowadays, it remains to be seen if buUuk will be successful in attracting large number of users.
