by Mohan Belani

The day is finally here for our first ever mobile developer community event. MobFest was hatched by a group of people (Neng Giin Yap, Serene Tan, Ruiwen Chua, Will Lee, Peter Du Senyao and myself) passionate about the mobile industry and the local entrepreneurship scene. The event t ook a couple of weeks to brainstorm and put together and after lots of support from the community, we have managed to amass a good variety of topics.

Event Details:

Date: Tonight!

Location: Microsoft Singapore, One Marina Boulevard Level 22, One Marina Boulevard

Time: 7.00pm – 10.00pm

Topics that will be discussed tonight include:

1) Presentation by Gothere.sg team
Gothere.sg will be presenting some cool stuff that they’ve been working on.. Be the first to see it (other than their own company folks) :)

2) Building applications across different mobile platforms by Fonemesh.com Caleb Kow (http://www.fonemesh.com/)
Caleb is one of the co-founders of Fonemesh, a Singapore and California based startup which is building software to allow mobile phones to communicate with each other directly in high speed without any configuration. Prior to Fonemesh, Caleb managed data center operations and telecommunications investments for a US based venture capital holding company. Items to be touched upon during MobFest would be some experiences with building applications across different mobile platforms, as well as the state of current open source mobile development versus proprietary platforms.

3) OpenMoko
[Sorry couldn't get the speaker =(]. There will be about 3 openmoko handsets in this event! You can touch them, hold them, rub them, programme them (hopefully ^_^)

4) Invitation to Singapore Android Developers’ Community (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=54219346370) cum Getting Started with Android by Sean Sullivan
I really love my Android, so I decided to form a Singapore Android Developers’ group to gather people to share application ideas and form groups to create applications to this growing (rapidly) platform. And by chance, I happened to meet Mr Sean Sullivan, a Senior Software Engineer and Consultant from the US who is here in Singapore next week for the OSSPAC (http://www.osspac.com/), and he will be here to speak to you about how can you Get Started with Android (http://www.osspac.com/schedule-sessions/sessions/#session48).

5) MoSync – Automated mobile application porting (http://mosync.com)
Use the MoSync development platform to develop mobile applications for multiple mobile platforms. Deploy applications for the J2ME, Symbian and Windows Mobile platforms with just a single application code base. Reach a wider audience with your applications without the hassle of porting.

6) CocoaHeads Singapore & iPhone Development – Eric Dunivant
Brief introduction of the Mac development club here in Singapore & what you need to know to get started as an iPhone Developer.

7) Human Network Labs (HNL) – The Internet of Things. The Merging of Two Worlds (virtual and real worlds) – Yiping Goh (www.humannetworklabs.com)
We have seen the rise of the internet and most recently the online social networks. How about linking all these virtual information into the real world? Often referred as the ‘Internet of Things’, HNL provides a patented technology platform for mobile device users like you to visualize your environment using your mobile handsets. Welcome to the next innovation in the the way we socialize, communicate, navigate and interact with people and objects within our physical surroundings. Join us in paving the way to a new world of communications! Discover You, Me and Everything Around Us!

We are still open about people coming up to talk and share about their latest developments in the mobile world so feel free to contribute while you are there. If you have any queries, please feel free to drop me at line at 9003 9915 or email me at mohan@e27.sg

Let’s get the mobile developer community rocking tonight! :)
