Softbank & the Series B funding of Southeast Asia’s largest ad network

by bjornlee

dmsgroupAmidst the hustle of Chinese New Year festivities, Softbank China and India’s Bodhi fund have partnered in an undisclosed Series B round in DMS (Digital Marketing Solutions). DMS is Southeast Asia’s (SEA) largest ad network that comprises of star property AdMax network, which has a coverage of 66 million users across 1200 websites (link)

Its interesting to note that this Series B funding comes after the Series A funding round, also undisclosed, by IDG Ventures Vietnam (IDGVV), which saw Harvard-trained IDGVV founder Henry Nguyen joining DMS’ board of directors. DMS is a truly pan-SEA ad network with market presence in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia and Vietnam. Another notable fact is that social networking company Friendster had also chosen the same day to announce the choice of AdMax as their advertising partner of choice in Indonesia (link).

We chose to broadcast an 11-day-old press release due to the deafening silence of the blogosphere on a funding decision of marquee VC like Softbank and such a large ad network in SEA (see Google blog search results here). We hope this release will alert more SEA-based entrepreneurs and startups that venture funding is well and alive, especially since DMS has seemed to rely on traditional PR newswires to roll out their news.

Interesting news. Big guys are coming together to overcome crisis. FYI, Henry Nguyen has just married our Prime Minister’s daughter.
