Do Startups in IDM really require alot of capital?
The Garag3 was covered in Tuesday’s Business Times. It’s definitely cool to see our companies in the Garag3 covered yet again.
Although the lifestyle of the Garag3 was definitely well captured in that article, it seems the impression given was that you need to have massive amounts of capital to be successful.
It seems that there is a major gap in follow-on funding for IDM companies. Whether companies need lots of capital to succeed is debatable nowadays.
The important thing about IDM is that it is not really a capital intensive business. With today’s quick prototyping and rapid development tools, it’s pretty easy to whip up new projects.
One thing that many IDM companies need to truly understand, is the art of getting viral momentum.
We are now in the age of viral loops and social graphs. Start-ups that will feature prominently in the next few years will be the ones that can correctly grasp and ride upon the existing structures embedded in the social media framework of today.
Viral, Viral, Viral, PR, PR, PR are the primary mantras of tomorrow and these definitely require significantly less capital than the companies of the dot-com era bygone.
Companies should really begin thinking about their viral slant today.
