Thats a fact, not a rumor. This story first surfaced  ZDNet’s Malaysia Explorer section. Credit to Oon Yeoh who discovered this one fine day to find the most unexpected of friends inviting him to be a “friend”. The first wall post on Anwar’s Facebook profile shows that it was actually Anwar’s web design team that did this. Its still cool though to know that Facebook is not only used by American politicians but has crossed to Southeast Asia..

Ok, I can hear the sceptics ask, what makes me think this is real? Cos this profile is linked to Anwar’s Georgetown University email address. He is a visiting professor at the renowned college for pols.. Yes, the American college, not the same-named town in Malaysia.. =D Maybe this Georgetown University entry will clarify things.

Anwar only has 43 friends from Malaysia so far. A sign of low Facebook penetration in Malaysia perhaps? At least he has me as 1 friend in Singapore. Do you think we will see more regional politicians around? Politics is not usually a space E27 delves into but I think Mahatir joining Facebook will really shake things up for the social networking space. =D
